A fort rising straight out of the desert. Fireplaces hand-shaped by village women from cow dung and clay, floors laid by the one man who still knows the technique. Nothing off the shelf.
Then the horses and terrain. One of India's finest Marwari stables, the ancient breed with curved ears and a floating gait. Sensitive, honest, a joy to ride. Soft terrain, open country, zero tarmac. Thread through tiny villages, roll up on 200-plus bird species that don't spook the way they would from a jeep. Nights in luxury camps or proper tents with running water.
Good to know: Best season October to March.
BEST FOR: Anyone who thinks "roughing it" should still come with a fireplace and a cocktail.
